Know the lingo before you hit the links.

A

Automatic Flip
In Flip It Golf, a guaranteed redo earned by making eagle or better. No coin toss required — the opposing player must re-hit. Can also be used on your own teammate.
Action
A general term for any bet or wager on the golf course.

B

Back Nine
Holes 10-18 of an 18-hole course. Often bet separately from the front nine.
Best Ball
A team format where each player plays their own ball and the team takes the best score on each hole. Not to be confused with "scramble."
Birdie
One stroke under par. In Flip It Golf, a birdie earns your team +1 chance flip.
Bogey
One stroke over par.

C

Carry
When one player covers another player's bet or portion of a bet.
Chance Flip
The core mechanic of Flip It Golf. A coin-flip challenge where the winner determines if a shot is redone or stands. Risk: if you lose, you burn a flip.
Closest to the Pin (CTP)
A common side bet on par 3s for who hits closest to the hole on their tee shot.
Continue
In Flip It Golf, when a chance flip goes against the challenger — the original shot stands and the challenger loses a flip.

D

Dog Fight
A team game where the lowest individual score on each hole wins a point for their team.
Dots
Scoring system used in some formats (like Stableford) where points are awarded rather than strokes.
Double or Nothing
A bet to double the current stakes or cancel them entirely based on a single outcome.

E

Eagle
Two strokes under par. In Flip It Golf, an eagle earns your team +1 automatic flip.

F

Flip
In Flip It Golf, a coin-flip challenge. See: Chance Flip, Automatic Flip.
Flip Economy
The system of earning and spending flips in Flip It Golf. Birdies earn chance flips; eagles earn automatic flips.

G

Garbage
Collective term for side bets (sandies, greenies, etc.) that accumulate during a round.
Greenie
A side bet for hitting the green in regulation on a par 3 and making par or better.

H

Hammer
In the game "Hammer," a challenge that doubles the current bet. The opponent must accept or concede the hole.
Handicap
A numerical measure of a golfer's skill used to level the playing field. Not required for Flip It Golf.

J

Junk
Another term for side bets or "garbage."

L

Long Drive
A side bet for the longest tee shot on a specific hole (must be in the fairway).

M

Match Play
A format where holes are won/lost rather than total strokes. Each hole is its own competition.
Medal Play
Also called "stroke play." The total number of strokes determines the winner.

N

Nassau
The classic golf betting format. Three separate bets: front nine, back nine, and overall 18.
Net
A score adjusted for handicap. "Net par" means your adjusted score equals par.

O

Over/Under
Betting on whether something will be over or under a set number (e.g., total strokes, birdies made).

P

Par
The expected number of strokes for a hole or course.
Press
A new bet that begins mid-round, typically offered when a player is losing. "Press the back nine" starts a new bet for the remaining holes.
Proxy
A marker placed where a ball lands (usually on par 3s) to determine closest to the pin.

R

Redo
In Flip It Golf, when a player must re-hit their shot after losing a flip. Only the specific player redos, not the whole team.
Round Robin
A format where players rotate partners throughout the round.

S

Sandie
A side bet for making par or better after being in a bunker.
Scramble
A team format where everyone hits, the best shot is chosen, and everyone plays from that spot.
Skins
A format where each hole has a value. Win the hole outright to win the "skin." Ties carry over.
Snake
A side bet tracking three-putts. The last person to three-putt holds the "snake" and pays at the end.
Stroke Play
The total number of strokes for the round determines the winner.

T

Team
In Flip It Golf, two or more players competing together and sharing a flip pool.
Two-Down Automatic Press
A rule where a press is automatically triggered when a player falls two holes behind.

W

Wolf
A rotating format where one player each hole can choose to play alone against the other three or pick a partner after seeing tee shots.
