Section 1: Overview
1.1 Flip It Golf is a side game played alongside a standard round of golf.
1.2 Two or more teams compete by using "flips" — coin-flip challenges that can force opponents to re-hit shots.
1.3 The app tracks flips, scores (+/- par), and facilitates settle-up. It does not replace standard golf scoring.
Section 2: Teams and Setup
2.1 Games consist of two or more teams with one or more players each.
2.2 The typical format is 2v2, but any configuration is valid.
2.3 Teams are formed before the round begins and cannot change mid-game.
2.4 If a player leaves mid-round (phone dies, emergency, etc.), the game continues with uneven teams. No substitutions.
Section 3: Flip Economy
3.1 Starting Flips. Each team begins with 2 chance flips.
3.2 Earning Chance Flips.
- Birdie: The team earns +1 chance flip
- If a birdie is flipped and the re-hit is also a birdie (or better), the birdie-maker still earns +1 flip
3.3 Earning Automatic Flips.
- Eagle: The team earns +1 automatic flip
- Albatross (double eagle): The team earns +1 automatic flip
- Hole-in-one: The team earns +1 automatic flip
3.4 There is no maximum number of flips a team can hold.
Section 4: Chance Flips
4.1 A chance flip may be called after any shot during live play — tee shots, approaches, chips, putts, or recovery shots.
4.2 The flip must be called before the next shot is taken. Once a player addresses their next shot, the window closes.
4.3 When a chance flip is called:
- The app performs a coin flip (server-side RNG when online, client-side when offline)
- REDO: The shot must be re-hit by the same player
- CONTINUE: The original shot stands; the challenger loses 1 flip
4.4 Only the player who hit the shot performs the redo, not their teammate.
4.5 A team cannot call a flip if they have zero chance flips remaining.
Section 5: Automatic Flips
5.1 An automatic flip forces a redo without a coin toss. There is no risk to the challenger.
5.2 Automatic flips can be used on:
- Opposing team players
- Your own team players (e.g., to let a teammate retry a missed putt)
5.3 When used on a birdie/eagle that is then re-made:
- The re-hitter still earns the appropriate flip reward
- The automatic flip is consumed regardless of outcome
Section 6: Redos
6.1 A redo means the player hits again from the same spot (or as close as practical).
6.2 The original shot is void. Only the redo counts.
6.3 Standard golf rules apply to the redo (relief, penalties, etc.).
6.4 A redo can itself be flipped, if the opposing team has flips remaining.
Section 7: Scoring
7.1 The app tracks team scores as +/- par, not total strokes.
- Par = 0
- Birdie = -1
- Bogey = +1
- etc.
7.2 Any player in the game may log a hole result for any team.
7.3 In case of conflicting entries, the most recent entry wins.
7.4 Games are 9 or 18 holes, chosen at creation. The game ends when all holes are logged or manually ended.
Section 8: Offline Play
8.1 The app is designed to work without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
8.2 When offline, coin flips use client-side random number generation.
8.3 All actions are queued locally and sync when connectivity returns.
8.4 Offline flips are marked in the game history for transparency.
Section 9: Settle Up
9.1 Flip It Golf provides convenience links to Venmo and CashApp.
9.2 The app does not process, hold, or transfer any money.
9.3 All financial settlements are between players, outside the app.
9.4 Players are responsible for honoring their bets.
Section 10: Disputes
10.1 The app's coin flip result is final.
10.2 For rule disputes, refer to this document.
10.3 For situations not covered, players should agree on a resolution. When in doubt, flip for it.
Section 11: Etiquette
11.1 Call flips promptly — don't delay play.
11.2 Don't call flips on routine shots just to annoy opponents.
11.3 Accept flip results gracefully.
11.4 Settle your debts.
